Reimagining New England Histories K–12 Curriculum Project

Catalyzed by the Reimagining New England Histories project and funded by the Simmons Center, this project presents a free educator’s guide for teaching about historical injustice, sovereignty, and freedom in the Dawnland (New England).
Racial Slavery in the Americas
Resistance, Freedom, and Legacies

Released in August 2020, this high school-level resource challenges myths and absences in how our schools teach the history of slavery. This curriculum fulfilled part of the Simmons Center's mission to undertake public history projects which tell the story of racial slavery. In 2020–2022, free professional development webinars and in-person trainings were offered to assist educators in implementing the materials in their classrooms. This was a collaborative project with The Choices Program.
