Ruth J. Simmons Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice

We welcome proposals from partners and colleagues at Brown to co-sponsor or host an event that aligns with the work of the Ruth J. Simmons Center for the Study of Slavery and Justice (Simmons Center). The Simmons Center is a scholarly research center with a public humanities mission. Recognizing that racial slavery was central to the historical formation of the Americas and the modern world, the Simmons Center creates a space for the interdisciplinary study of the historical forms of slavery while also examining how these legacies continue to shape our contemporary world.

We receive many requests throughout the year and have a limited budget for events and co-sponsorship proposed by colleagues outside of the Simmons Center.  Please complete one of the forms below to provide us with all the necessary information to review and decide if we can accommodate your proposal. All requests are reviewed on a rolling basis. Please allow at least 3 weeks for us to review and respond to you.
